After Sunset, A Summer Gloom

8tracks has become one of my favourite online services very quickly. There is a great selection of music available through the site and I have been using it as a discovery engine for my own collection of music. Some of my favourite mixes are Vegan Restaurant, In the End There’s Only Love, A Lover’s Discourse: FragmentsThis Woman’s Work II, and Jalapeño Tofu Scramble & Brussels Sprout Hash.

The last mix is part of a series of mixes created by Cooking with Coltrane, a vegan food and music blog that paired recipes with music. This kind of creative use of mixes is what excites me about the curated music that 8tracks facilitates.

Cooking with Coltrane is a blog that celebrates the union of food and music. It is run by, Gloria and Mark, a foodie, musicophile couple, who carefully hand-selects music and food pairings. We invite you into our home for biweekly listening and tasting dinner parties. We aim to always use food that is natural, local and in season to bring you fresh, healthy and fulfilling vegan and vegetarian recipes. For us cooking is an art as is listening to music while cooking and eating. We hope to inspire the music loving foodie in everyone. So please visit often, send us a message, share a meal and a mix-tape with a loved one. Because, really really, isn’t this what life is all about?

I’ve made a second mix myself this week. I think it will become a weekly activity for me because I enjoy sharing my weird music tastes so much. In this mix I’ve included songs by Warpaint, Big Wreck, Marvelous 3, Crash Test Dummies, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Vermillion Lies, Nouvelle Vague, Stuart Davis, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Chelsea Wolfe and Ghost Dance.
