Strong Female Protagonist

Strong Female Protagonist surprised me when I began reading it. There are innumerable comics that include a “what if heroes were real?” or “why don’t superheroes make real changes to the world?” premise. It’s a tired setup and I worried this comic would be weighted down by the same mistakes that too often come from those ideas. SFP feels fresh and takes a more nuanced, humorous look through a superhero lens.

Brennan Lee Mulligan’s writing keeps the story engaging as it moves between a protest, a classroom, a fire station and the overblown world of superheroics. The protagonist is relatable and her conflicts seem natural. Molly Ostertag’s art very capably conveys emotion and makes the comic very accessible.

SFP follows the adventures of a young middle-class American with super-strength, invincibility and a crippling sense of social injustice.
